Subject:nothin exciting
Time:3:16 am.
I just remembered about this and spent a good hour or so reading the last 4 or so months of journal entries of the few people I am still friends with on here. I am thankful to have remained friended to those of you still active after alll these months. It was like catching up with an old friend without the awkwardness of figuring out what to say since you last talked.

Not much has changed for me. I still have the same job, living in the same place and interacting with most of the same people. Although I have tried and failed to change these things. I hate applying for jobs but the way things are going it looks like I may be in a different line of work in the next 1.5 years. I know 1.5 years may seem like a long time but really it is not and will be sneaking up on me before I know it. Hopefully if it comes down to my position simply being eliminated then maybe I can just transfer to some other part of AtlantiCare.

I joined okcupid and plentyoffish in a hopes to meet some new friends or even form a more intimate relationship. However all i have received from those websites thus far is a blowjob and a better understanding of the type of women i do not want to be around. I guess in part it is my fault because I tend not to take the initial contact too seriously and thus usually start having BS back and forth emails or txts,, which evolve to BSing on the phone , but after a few days of that the serious questions start getting asked and thats when I realize that there was nothing there but a pretty face and some pointless bullshit banter between two people who have little in common with one another besides the fact that they are both lonely.

I am toying with the idea of getting a room mate. I have a one bedroom apt with its own entrance on the second floor of my house that is being used for nothing but storing old furniture . Im close to the train station . There are quite a few restaurants and stores within a 3-4 mile radius of my home. Atlantic city is right around the corner. I just need to figure out what amount would be reasonable to charge. I am just unsure if i want the hassle of being a landlord, especially to a stranger.

Well I guess i should get some sleep seeing as I have to work tonight and have to shovel my car out before i can even attempt to drive to work.

Subject:update 6 months in the making
Time:7:11 pm.
Yeah so remember that last entry about me buying a house... welll the deal fell through and i have spent the last six months attempting to buy that same home. Well 6 months later, with about $1000 lost and several life lessons learned i walked away from that property entirely.

On a positive note, I went to look at a new property last wed. I really liked it and put a bid in, well this morning they accepted my bid. Hopefully i wont have to deal with half of the shit that went down the last time around , especially since I am buying the house from the seller directly no short sales or forclosure shit is involved.

This house is almost twice the sixze of the other one and I got it for 17K less than the other one would have cost me. here is some info on the new house.

It is an amazing piece of property that I am pretty much stealingfrom the current owner. I is a house that has been converted into two seperate apartments and I am buying the entire house. So down the road i could rent out the top floor and pretty much pay for my morgage payments.

The main floor is a two bed room one bathroom with kitchen, dining area, living room and family room.

The second floor is a one bedroom one bath with an eat in kitchen, living room, bedroom and den/entry room

The two apartments are connected by a staircase in the dining room area.

here is a link to the listing

In other news Im finishing up my essay for my Montclair grad school application, still working with the preschoolers(some of whom will be my neighbors in the near future), still single( some disaterous dates have ensure to that), sill sarcastic as ever and continuing to continue on. wooooooo adult hood!!!!

Time:9:10 am.
I guess an update is due.

I have been rather busy during these last 10 months, not so much that i couldnt write about it, i was more so just didnt care about writing about it. In retrospect alot of things have happened to me however if you break it down to daily happenings it seems rather boring even routine.

Even though I have not been writing i have been reading. i read ever entry on my friends list. I especially enjoy your comics Paul or the chronicles of your life Sammi.

Subject:The Most Hated Family in America
Time:9:32 pm.
They call themselves the most hated family in the US and they picket funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq. So what did [British documentarian] Louis Theroux make of the Phelpses after three weeks?

In any country, let alone one as patriotic as the US, few actions are as provocative as protesting at a soldier’s funeral.

The Phelps family pickets mourners across the country, to mark what it describes as God’s revenge on the US for tolerating homosexuality.

Their actions are in the name of the Westboro Baptist Church, which numbers 71 and is headed by “Gramps”, preacher Fred Phelps. The church, which is based in Topeka, Kansas, mostly comprises his extended family.

I really enjoy watching stuff like this I have no clue why. i guess seeing the extremes in religous views like this intrigues me for some reason. I dont agree with the statements made, but I just think it makes for an interesting watch

Subject:its not the same
Time:1:33 am.
Okay so I went to the bar tonight, it just wasnt the same. I didnt get the same vibe as i did back in college. I guess it was mainly because the key elements of why i had a good time in college arent there anymore. For about the last three years going out meant pregaming at someones apartment or townhouse, then heading off to a party and or the bar.

I dont have that luxury anymore. i dont have anyone around here to go out with I dont have a bar within reasonable walking distance to my hiome nor do I have as many free nights as I did when i was in college.

I guess its all part of growing up. I also realize that maybe once a month or so, if im lucky, I may get back to glassboro , but its not the same. I now sit envious of all my friends who still have away messages reffering to Mainstreet and Landmarks special of the night, or the party that Sigma PI or AXP is throwing.

I guess I jus wanted to be in college forever and up until this past week i was able to do it vicariously through others but yet still had hat connection that made me feel like i was sill enfact part of everything that goes on at Rowan.
I'm not complaining about the loss of this connection, just refering to my dissappointment in seeing it go.

Yeah, Im sure Ill get a new routine or adjust the old one to fit my current status, but Im still trying to figure out how to do that. In the meantime, I sit here asking myself if I missed my chance or is my chance still waiting on the horizon.

When i say "miss my chance" that is not to say "woah is me I will be single forever", I am using it more as a statement to refer how I am usure if my current decsions are the right ones. Should I have another drink? Should I engange with that girl who seems slightly interested? Should I continue to ignore the slight glances that I recieve because I am uninterrested in anything other than friends at the moment? Do I even know how to be cute or subtle seeing as most of my relationships have fallin right into my lap? Am I as much of an awkward doofus as I precieve myself to be? All of these thoughts and more flow through my head during my days of solitude wasting away into the oblivion of retail hell.

I dont know what exactly my point was in writing this. I dont know if Im looking for sympathy or maybe Im just waiting for the right person to tell me that "things will be okay". I honesly think its the latter of the two. I dont know who exact;y that person that im waiing for is, but i hope they dont take too long to show themself

If you actually read all of this, i thank you. i very rarely have any inspiration to just free flow write like this but every now and then it comes to me. very relaxing and almost puts myself at ease putting some o my inner thoughts down.

Subject:I know snopes isnt flawless, but....
Time:1:01 pm.
Why do people make these fake missing person things and then send them around via email and myspace. What is there to gain from doing this

The latest on is in reference to a 13 year old girl named Ashley Flores

The reason i believe these to be fake is (just as www.snopes.com pointed out) The text of the e-maildoes not include some of the most basic information one would expect to find in a genuine missing child plea: where the young girl (Ashley Flores) went missing, when she went missing, when and where she was last seen, a physical description of her, contact information for her parents, contact information for the local police authorities handling the case, etc. All we're provided with is the ambiguous statement that a "Deli manager from Philadelphia, Pa" has a 13-year-old daughter who has been missing "for two weeks,"

Below i haveposted the similar sections of two of these "pleas, there were quite a few similarities.

Ashley(undetermined by snopes)

please look at the picture, read what her mother says, then forward his message on.

Maybe if everyone passes this on, someone will see this child.
That is how the girl from Stevens Point was found by circulation
of her picture on tv. The internet circulates even overseas,
South America, and Canada etc. Thanks

Please pass this to everyone in your address book.

We have a Deli manager (Acme Markets) from Philadelphia, Pa
who has a 13 year old daughter who has been missing
for 2 weeks.
Keep the picture moving on.
With luck on her side she will be found.

"I am asking you all, begging you to please
forward this email on to anyone and everyone
you know, PLEASE.
My 13 year old girl, Ashley Flores, is missing.
She has been missing for now two weeks.

It is still not too late. Please help us. If anyone any
where knows anything, please contact me at:
I am including a picture of her.
All prayers are appreciated!! "

It only takes 2 seconds
to forward this.

If it was your child, you would want all the help you could get

Peggy Brown (Confirmed as false by snopes)

I am asking you all, begging you to please, forward this email on to anyone and everyone you know, PLEASE. My 9 year old girl, Penny Brown, is missing. She has been missing for now two weeks. It is still not too late, Please help us.

If anyone anywhere knows anything, sees anything, please contact me at zicozicozico@hotmail.com

I am including a picture of her. All prayers are appreciated!!

It only takes 2 seconds to forward this on, if it was your child, you would want all the help you could get.

Please. thank you for your kindness, hopefully you can help us.

Im not doing this because im a dick or anything or that im tired of everyone posting these, I am just curious as to why someone would do this.

Its either a really sick joke or the people are collecting emails when people send in tips or condolences and sell them to companies. Either way its a pretty shitty thing to do.

Just my two cents

Time:10:08 am.
Holy shit, I went 10 weeks without updating this damn thing.

I guess thats because i have actually had soemthing else to keep me busy, mainly being a very wonderful girl. Melissa and i have benn dating for a little over two months now and I have never been happier.

Melissa and I had a lot of fun, keeping our relationship a secret for the first 2 weeks or so. It was one of those things that we did not want to jump into so we were testing the relationship waters so if we could have a little more fun at the sametime we took full advatage of it.

She helped to make the end of this semester highly enjoyable and It did not even cost me too much in my grades

Criminla Justice Research...... B
Cultural Anthropology.......B
Law and Human Rights.....C+ (this is replacing an F, so Im not complaining)
Pysch of Personality....D (this clases ave was like a 65 so I dont really care either)

My classes for the Spring semester is looking pretty a sweet too

Law and Justice Seminar 8:00-10:40AM (M ONLY)
Forensic Law 8:00- 10:40AM (W only)
Social Welfare 12:15-1:30
Film Noir 3:15-6:00 (M only)

10:50-12:05 Spanish I

Two 8 ams is the worst part of my schedule. I have three once a week classes I am done by 1:30 tuesday-thursday. Only one class on TR. Not to mention that this is my last semester of college ever!!!

The only downside of this semester is that Meliss is studing abroad this semster. She leaves on 2/14 and does not come back 6/25. yeah 4 months without her kinda sucks but i'll deal.

We are getting webcameras, will be able to email each other and the best part is I get to visit her after graduation. My parents (mainly my dad) said they would ive me money to go visit her. I am looking forward to spending close to 2 weeks in austrialia with her, its going to be amazing.

Before she leaves we are going to be spending pretty much every weekend together which will be nice, but at the smaetime it will probably make it even harder when the 14th rolls around. I am not sure exactly hat we will be doing each of those weekends, except for the weekend of the 26th. On Jan 26th 2006 I am going to be watching BILLY JOEL in MSG.

Melissa is the first girlfreind or person of interest, in college, who has lasted long enough to actually meet my folks. Actually she has now met a large portion ofmy family. She came down on saturday, met my dads side of the family , spent the night, then met my mom's side of the family on sunday.

My family loves her and I could not be happier that she fits in so well with my family. She was not the only one to go through the family test. Last weekend I spent four days in Ewing.

Thats right 4 days. I wrang in the new year and celebrated Melissa's 21st birthday with her. Four days spent with melissa and all of our friends and three nights spent partying in Ewing.

I dont have much else to report, except that i have a new cell phone

It will not be active until later tonight, but I doubt any of you will be calling me anytime soon.

I think i have wsted enough of my day off, im going to go be semi-productive

Subject:Yeah, I do still use this thing
Time:11:00 am.
Mood: bored.
In the five weeks since I last used this, I havent had th e desire to update. It wasnt like you were posting damanding more any how.

Schoolwise I am doing average to fine at best. I got a perfect score on my one paper, but then failed the only test I have taken thus far. I have a take home test due tomorow, that I havent really started but the Professsor went over all of the questions inn class, so its just a matter of typing up the answes from my notes. Lastly, work wise I have a test next wed, in Law and Human Rights, I hope Dr DOuglas tests in this class like he did in the other class I had him for.

APO has had a lot of ups and downs so far this semester. We have 7 new pledges, and I think they are all great. Some can be a tad frustrating at times but IM sure Amy felt that way about most of my class too. I really wish people would utilize me as chaplin. They voted me in, so they obviously felt I could handle the job, but i keep finding out about issues from second hand sources.

I have joined the ranks of people on Rowan's campus with a facebook group dedicated to them. If you go to Rowan, check out Mean Brandon! The funny thing is every single person in there is actually a friend of mine. Im waiting for the complete strangers join. They only have 18 members, but i have a feeling i can help boost their numbers

I guess i would have to agree with the concensus that I can be mean. For example I let my room mate sleep through his classes in hopes that he flunks out. I also have my fingers crossed that he gets in trouble in some way, and gets assigned community service because I know he wont do it and end up with holds on his account at the registar.

The guy is a total slob. HE acts as though it is a chore for him to do anything that resembles the slightest bit of common decentcy. Although he does take out the trash, but i would gladly take out the trash in exchange for him peeing with the door closed or not leaving food out everywhere.

I have felt like such a lump lately. I only had one class on monday (my 9:25 was cancelled), One class on tuesday (I slept through my 9:25), and I havent done any work beyond reading since friday afternoon
The there is todays schedule. First I had Intro to sociology, which i just can not take someone with the title of Dr. when they say something makes them look "megastupid" or when they continually refer to Law and Order :Special victims UNit as "SUV", not to mention when she said Africa was a country today.

Someone from highscholl started messaging me on facebook last week. I thik I have seen her once or twice around town since graduation. I really enjoy talking with her, its just weird because I never really hung out with her in highschool, although I really did find her to be interesting, we just were from kinda different groups of friends. I just think its cool that she messaged me out of the blue, who knows maybe we can create the friendship we didnt have in highschool.

I am rediscovering some of the music of my youth. Im currrently listening to the Insubordinates, before that it was Beck, I had Black Flag and the Goo Goo dolls on this weekend. I think i need to get some more music on my computer and Mp3 player because my selection is lacking.

Well, i hope you are hapy to know that im alive and actualy doing something. Hopefully my next update will be before thanksgiving

Subject:Blonds, seven degrees
Time:11:14 pm.
A married couple was asleep when the phone rang at 2 in the morning. The wife (undoubtedly blonde), picked up the phone, listened a moment and said, "How should I know, that's 200 miles from here!" and hung up. The husband said, "Who was that?" The wife said, "I don't know, some woman wanting to know "if the coast is clear."

Two blondes are walking down the street. One notices a compact on the sidewalk and leans down to pick it up. She opens it, looks in the mirror and says, "Hmm, this person looks familiar".

The second blonde says, "Here, let me see!" So the first blonde hands her the compact. The second one looks in the mirror and says, "You dummy, it's me!"

A blonde suspects her boyfriend of cheating on her, so she goes out and buys a gun. She goes to his apartment unexpectedly and when she opens the door she finds him in the arms of a redhead. Well, the blonde is really angry. She opens her purse to take out the gun, and as she does so, she is overcome with grief. She takes the gun and puts it to her head.

The boyfriend yells, "No, honey, don't do it!!!" The blonde replies, "Shut up, you're next!"

A blonde was bragging about her knowledge of state capitals. She proudly says, "Go ahead, and ask me, I know all of them."

A friend says, "OK, what's the capital of Wisconsin?" The blonde replies, "Oh, that's easy: 'W'."

What did the blonde ask her doctor when he told her she was pregnant?

"Is it mine?"

Bambi, a blonde in her fourth year as a UCLA freshman, sat in her US government class. The professor asked Bambi if she knew what Roe vs. Wade was about. Bambi pondered the question then finally said, "That was the decision George Washington had to make before he crossed the Delaware."

Returning home from work, a blonde was shocked to find her house ransacked and burglarized. She telephoned the police at once and reported the crime. The police dispatcher broadcast the call on the radio, and a K-9 unit, patrolling nearby, was the first to respond. As the K-9 officer approached the house with his dog on a leash, the blonde ran out on the porch, shuddered at the sight of the cop and his dog, and then sat down on the steps. Putting her face in her hands, she moaned, "I come home to find all my possessions stolen. I call the police for help, and what do they do? They send me a BLIND policeman."

INTRO TO SOCIOLOGY MW 09:25-10:40AM ROB 211 PIERCE, JOY Y textbook cost $4.75 plus tax

This is a tribute to the nice guys

The nice guys that finish last, that never become more than friends, that endure hours of whining and bitching about what assholes guys are, while disproving the very point. This is dedicated to those guys who always provide a shoulder to lean on but restrain themselves to tentative hugs, those guys who hold open doors and give reassuring pats on the back and sit patiently outside the changing room at department stores. This is in honor of the guys that obligingly reiterate how cute/beautiful/smart/funny/sexy their female friends are at the appropriate moment, because they know most girls need that litany of support. This is in honor of the guys with open minds, with laid-back attitudes, with honest concern. This is in honor of the guys who respect a girl’s every facet, from her privacy to her theology to her clothing style.

This is for the guys who escort their drunk, bewildered female friends back from parties and never take advantage once they’re at her door, for the guys who accompany girls to bars as buffers against the rest of the creepy male population, for the guys who know a girl is fishing for compliments but give them out anyway, for the guys who always play by the rules in a game where the rules favor cheaters, for the guys who are accredited as boyfriend material but somehow don’t end up being boyfriends, for all the nice guys who are overlooked, underestimated, and unappreciated, for all the nice guys who are manipulated, misled, and unjustly abandoned, this is for you.

This is for that time she left 40 urgent messages on your cell phone, and when you called her back, she spent three hours painstakingly dissecting two sentences her boyfriend said to her over dinner. And even though you thought her boyfriend was a chump and a jerk, you assured her that it was all ok and she shouldn’t worry about it. This is for that time she interrupted the best killing spree you’d ever orchestrated in GTA3 to rant about a rumor that romantically linked her and the guy she thinks is the most repulsive person in the world. And even though you thought it was immature and you had nothing against the guy, you paused the game for two hours and helped her concoct a counter-rumor to spread around the floor. This is also for that time she didn’t have a date, so after numerous vows that there was nothing “serious” between the two of you, she dragged you to a party where you knew nobody, the beer was awful, and she flirted shamelessly with you, justifying each fit of reckless teasing by announcing to everyone: “oh, but we’re just friends!” And even though you were invited purely as a symbolic warm body for her ego, you went anyways. Because you’re nice like that.

The nice guys don’t often get credit where credit is due. And perhaps more disturbing, the nice guys don’t seem to get laid as often as they should. And I wish I could logically explain this trend, but I can’t. From what I have observed on campus and what I have learned from talking to friends at other schools and in the workplace, the only conclusion I can form is that many girls are just illogical, manipulative bitches. Many of them claim they just want to date a nice guy, but when presented with such a specimen, they say irrational, confusing things such as “oh, he’s too nice to date” or “he would be a good boyfriend but he’s not for me” or “he already puts up with so much from me, I couldn’t possibly ask him out!” or the most frustrating of all: “no, it would ruin our friendship.” Yet, they continue to lament the lack of datable men in the world, and they expect their too-nice-to-date male friends to sympathize and apologize for the men that are jerks. Sorry, guys, girls like that are beyond my ability to fathom. I can’t figure out why the connection breaks down between what they say (I want a nice guy!) and what they do (I’m going to sleep with this complete ass now!). But one thing I can do, is say that the nice-guy-finishes-last phenomenon doesn’t last forever. There are definitely many girls who grow out of that train of thought and realize they should be dating the nice guys, not taking them for granted. The tricky part is finding those girls, and even trickier, finding the ones that are single.

So, until those girls are found, I propose a toast to all the nice guys. You know who you are, and I know you’re sick of hearing yourself described as ubiquitously nice. But the truth of the matter is, the world needs your patience in the department store, your holding open of doors, your party escorting services, your propensity to be a sucker for a pretty smile. For all the crazy, inane, absurd things you tolerate, for all the situations where you are the faceless, nameless hero, my accolades, my acknowledgement, and my gratitude go out to you. You do have credibility in this society, and your well deserved vindication is coming.
How many of you think this is true, that these guys really do exist?

Time:10:06 am.
I bet none of your professors did this

Hello All,

You may have noticed that there are no books in the bookstore for my sections of the course. Yes, you will have to purchase a book, but I suggest you purchase it through Amazon.com or Barnesandnoble.com

The required reading is:

Henslin, James M. Essentials of Sociology: A Down-to-Earth Approach. Fifth Edition. Allyn and Bacon Publishers (2004).

This book is often sold used for as little as a few dollars online! If you were to purchase it new from the bookstore you will pay approximately $65.

PLEASE BE SURE YOU GET THE FIFTH (5th) EDITION. You will need to have your book by the second class meeting.

I look forward to meeting you all Wednesday, September 7.

Joy Pierce
Adjunct Professor
